Types of Play

Solitary play :

When a child can be engaged all by himself in an independent activity.

Some good ways of engaging the child alone is by encouraging them to read books or enhance their creativity skills with the aid of colouring books. This is a very important stage of childhood, helping the child to improve their concentration and focusing power. A child should first be capable of being all by himself, only then will he become capable of forming bonds with others. Also, Solitary play makes parent’s life more comfortable as we all know how fidgety and restless children can get when bored. This will not only keep the kid entertained, but will help them inculcate the habit of being engaged on their own, which will serve them well throughout their life.

There are a lot of benefits of Solitary play. To list a few :

1. We all know that one has to eventually become independent in life and solitary play helps them develop a strong sense of independence at early stages of life itself.

2. It open their gates to the world of imagination and creativity. Playing alone gives children the time they need to think, explore and dream beyond reality. This will help the kid in later stages of life as it helps the child to set goals and ambitions for him.

3. They don’t have to be dependent on others for entertainment as they are independent and are able to alleviate their boredom.

Parallel Play :

Solitary play’ (playing alone) is followed by ‘parallel play’ – playing ‘next to’ but not ‘with’ other children. Though they may use the same toys, your Child plays beside, rather than with, other children . Parallel play is usually found with toddlers, although it happens in any age group.

For parallel play, toys like Building Blocks, Matching theme games, sorting etc are shared by kids.

This type of play is extremely important as it helps them form bond with other kids and relate to them because they have similar interests. This is basically the final stage before the stage when they start connecting with other kids

and make friends. It helps them develop their social interaction skills and builds their confidence to take initiatives to interact with others.

It’s the stepping stone for future peer Play.

1. This type of play encourages them to share things with others and makes them a more giving person. After all, sharing is caring!

2. This is an extremely important stage of the development of their social behaviour.

3. It helps them build their confidence because it helps them come out of their shells and bond with others in the same environment.

Peer play :

Peers play an extremely important role in different stages of child development. They share the same kind of joy and excitement, and they participate in different kinds of learning activities together. This not only motivates them, but also brings the spirit of competitiveness in their personalities. While playing together, they learn to cooperate and inculcate the traits required for being a good team player. Peers Play boosts their social skills and enhances their personalities to a large extent.

Here are few more benefits of peers play:

1. They learn to follow and play by the rules and cooperate with each other by taking turns.

2. They develop the feeling of respect other players and inculcate the feeling of empathy while playing together.

3. Their minds become sharper and they start thinking strategically and logically.

4. They learn basics of teamwork and understand how they need to cooperate with others to achieve something.

5. They start becoming ambitious and set goals for themselves. It creates an exciting atmosphere with open communication and healthy competition, encouraging the kids to express themselves freely and while cultivating patience in them.

Parent-child play :

The most important and the most fun kind of play for a young child is when they play with parents. Research has shown that playtime with parents has a huge impact on the bonding of a parent with their child. Parent-child Play is one of the best ways strengthen the relationship between you and your child. The stronger the relationship between the two of you, the more your child will want to please you and comply with your requests. This would lead to the obedience in their behavior!

Family Play :

Who doesn’t love playing with their kids?

It is one of the biggest stress burster for overworked parents. Research shows that adult play is extremely needed to their maintain social well-being and enhancing their communication skills.

Family play is an essential trait of a happy and healthy families. It creates a very positive environment which affects the development of a child in a positive manner. It creates conversation spaces for the family to talk, laugh and just lighten up their home. These happy memories last a lifetime and lays a strong foundation of the bond the family shares. Playing with kids Just once in a while, let’s just forget how busy we are and let our inner kid out and just have fun.

Language :

Language includes listening, speaking and vocabulary. By developing these skills, young children can understand how to communicate their thoughts, wants and needs.

Listening and understanding

If listening is difficult than understanding can be almost impossible and many of us have troubled with this skill so Read to your child every day to help developing this skill.

Speaking (Communication)

Language is communication. Young children are excellent observers and grasp non-verbal communication quickly. Understanding the complexity of verbal communication requires much more practice. Let them choose the book which gives them an opportunity to read and converse.

Vocabulary

Children have an amazing vocabulary however there is still a need to increase their understanding of using words correctly. You can give your child the best gift ever by providing variety of books which will improve their vocabulary and curiosity which will help them even after school life in adulthood.

Math :

Have you ever wondered why your parents would always read you storybooks before we go to sleep when you were young?                                                                                                            It actually makes our brain work by stimulating senses thinking these things are actually true and based on real events. Our imaginations start rolling and this helps us develop our neurons in response to what we perceive. So if you think reading story books for children is just a way to make them fall asleep, then you are mistaken. Story telling serves greater purpose in our children’s daily lives and it might sound simple for us parents, but this actually teaches them a lot in their early childhood education.

Nature :

Children are naturally curious about their world and enjoy exploring nature. 

There are mainly two reasons,

2- They are also a part of a nature. 

Children could be heard asking, "I wonder what is under the rocks?" "What is that bird eating?" "Does that flower smell?" and "Why are the ants fighting? “Childhood is the time to encourage and nurture early interests in nature”. How can children care about nature if they haven’t experienced it first hand? We must do what we can to ensure that children have those opportunities. Being surrounded by nature and resources to learn about nature will infinite benefits to children.
